This publication contains monthly information on sales of new motor vehicles in each State/Territory in original, seasonally adjusted and trend estimated terms. The original data are sourced from the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries. Sales data are available for passenger vehicles, other vehicles and total vehicles at the State/Territory and National levels.

APRIL 2002 KEY POINTS

Trend

There has been a gradual decline in the rate of growth in total new motor vehicle sales since October 2001, with figures for April 2002 indicating zero growth compared with the previous month.

New passenger vehicle sales fell by 0.4% while sales of other vehicles rose by 0.7%.

Seasonally Adjusted

Seasonally adjusted total new vehicle sales rose by 8.1% in April 2002, following two consecutive monthly falls. All States and Territories recorded increases this month.

Sales of new passenger vehicles rose by 6.8% and sales of other vehicles rose by 10.7%.
